A very Happy New Year 2021 to one and all. May this year bring lots of joy and happiness with good health and positivity. Let us start this new year by making and relishing some sweets, as eating a sweet gives a lot of pleasure and happiness. This Shahi egg sweet is popular in the Muslim community in the South of India. It is a delicacy which is served on special occasions. It is very easy to prepare and requires just a few ingredients. All the ingredients are healthy, except sugar, it is better to use less sugar or you can use a healthier option of natural sugar like stevia.


Serves 12 – 15

  • Eggs – 15 large
  • Ghee –  1 cup
  • Solidified Milk (Khoya) – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 2 cups
  • Saffron – Few Strands
  • Almonds – 10- 15


Step 1

Take a bowl and crack open the eggs and whisk them well.

Step 2

Add sugar, ghee, khoya and saffron to the eggs and mix them till there are no lumps.

Step 3

Take a non-stick pan and pour the whole mixture into it. Add the sliced almonds over the mixture, you can also add cashews, pistachios and even raisins. Put it on the stove and cover the pan. Simmer the flame to cook for 20 to 30 minutes.


If you want to bake in the oven, you can pour the mixture into the baking tray. On the preheated oven, place the tray and keep it for 25 to 30 minutes till it is golden brown.

Step 4

Remove when it is done and let it cool. Cut it into shapes you like square or maybe diamond. You can also decorate it with silver foil.
